Cheyenne County
Dalton Cemetery
As researched by
Faetta Schreinert December 2004.
The Dalton
Cemetery is located 1/2 mile east
and 1/4 mile south of the first National
Bank, Dalton, Nebraska. This
cemetery is on the west side of the
road. In the Cheyenne County Clerks
office in Sidney, Nebraska a deed is
recorded pertaining to the beginning of
the dalton Cemetery. It is located
in Deed book 10, page 550. On
October 18, 1910 Albert H. Carow and Wife
conveyed 2 acres to the Village of dalton,
Nebraska (Incorporated) for $150.00.
The deed reads as follows: 2 acres of land
situated in the southeast corner of the
northeast quarter of section number thirty
three (33) in township number seventeen
(17), north range forty-nine (49), west of
the sixth p.m. and described as follows:
Commencing at the southeast government
corner of the northeast quarter of section
number thirty three, township seventeen,
range forty nine, west of the sixth
p.m. This to be the starting point
of said land, thence north three hundred
feet, thence west three hundred feet,
thence south three hundred feet, thence
east three hundred feet to the starting
point.

The
oldest marked grave appears to be that of
William H. Ravert. He was born
September 23, 1846 and died October 25,
1893.
The Beulah
Reinmuth grave was moved to the Dalton
Cemetery from the Hoffman Cemetery August
3, 1951. Cause of death was
appendicitis. The Hoffman Cemetery
is presently known as Sanders Cemetery.
On May 24, 1967
the graves of George Henry Ruhter and
Joseph Herman Ruhter were moved from the
Dalton Cemetery to the Greenwood Cemetery,
Sidney, Nebraska.
In Section
B there is a white cement cross.
Time has erased the inscription.
Please call me, Faetta Schreinert at
308-377-2582, if you know anything about
this burial.
In
Section A there is an "Infant
Grandson" marker. No other
identification.
The present
cemetery board are Ron Devier, Leon "Bud"
Gillispei, Dennis Ravert, Dorwin Reimers,
Jim Troidl and Connie Winkelman.

The following
is a crudely drawn map so I could indicate
in which section the graves are
located. The cemetery has been
enlarged to the south. The C, F and I
sections are extended into the new area.

There are a
number of unmarked graves in both the Dalton
Cemetery and the St. Mary's Cemetery . This a
compiled list of burial's that were mentioned in
various sources of Mrs. Faetta Schreinert
research. Obituaries don't always indicate in
which of the Dalton cemeteries the burial took place
so this Unmarked Graves list includes both of the
Dalton Cemeteries.

Schreinert has obituary
Freda EVANS is
buried to the north of her son, Fred
Evans. Fred is buried to the north of
Harold & Mabel Brunner in section D of the
Dalton Cemetery. I mention two
references because Fred's grave is marked with
an undetaker marker and may not be very
permanent.
Edward Lee FRAASS is buried in the south
section of the St. Mary's Cemetery near the
Henry & Stella Henke graves.
Ruby FREUDENBERG is buried between her
husband, Albert and her son, Ronnie in section
D of the Dalton Cemetery.
The GUSTIN's are all buried near Abraham
& Emma Jane Gustin in section B of the
dalton Cemetery.
Mrs. W. R. VENABLES cremains were to be
brought to Dalton. Were these plans ever
carried out?
If you have more information or corrections
that you would like to be in the records,
please contact the county
coordinator.
