"Our new Constitution is now established, and has an appearance that promises permanency;
but in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes."
This excellent collection of names and places was offered by a Keith County researcher. It may seem a strange thing to offer a list of delinquent taxpayers as genealogical information, but consider that taxes are due every year--not just during a census year. It is my hope that living descendants happening upon this information will understand that this is in no way meant to be an embarrassment. I also hope that these names, dates, and locations will be of assistance to someone trying to pinpoint an ancestor's location at a certain time.
A Note from the Submitter and Transcriptionist:
My brother, Bill, and I were born and raised on a farm/ranch north of Ogallala. Our parents were Virgil 'Butch' and
Maxine Lee Madison. Maxine worked as a clerk in the Keith County Clerk's Office in Ogallala in the late 1960's and early 1970's.
Adelia Reikats (may have been spelled Ricketts), County Clerk, introduced Maxine to the history of the local area and colorful characters.
Maxine made notes which she hoped one day to share with others interested in grandparents and great-grandparents.
Although Maxine was unable to complete her project, I am gladly able to share this information with you now.
